PYC Mission Statement

Date of Origin: February 11, 1976

The objectives of the Palatka Yacht Club shall be to promote good fellowship and cooperation among its members, the sport of yachting, safety afloat, and techniques of good seamanship.

PYC Activities

Club members usually gather on the third Saturday of each month for dinner. Exceptions to the third Saturday evolve around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We try to have a monthly boating adventure; however, the weather in December and January may prevent boating. Our calendar tab above includes our proposed boating adventures, which are very much subject to change.

Unless the Commodore decides otherwise, the principal meeting of the membership is in November to elect officers, who assume their duties in January at the change of command ceremony. Generally, the slate of officers will be announced at the October dinner gathering.

Annually, the club participates in the organization of the Mug Race—the world’s longest river race, which is open to sailboats of all sizes. This year (2018) will be the 65th running of the race.

Several members of the St. Johns Yacht Club in Palatka, the predecessor to the Palatka Yacht Club, decided to start this very unique race.

Periodically, we also offer a small boating refresher course in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
